On March 21, 1953, during the second administration of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo, Decree with Force of Law (DFL) No. 16 was published in the Official Gazette, creating the Ministry of Mines. A few months later, under the direction of the Bi-Minister of Economy and Mining, Rafael Tarud, DFL No. 231 was issued on July 23, 1953, giving the Ministry its current name, the Ministry of Mining. Since its creation, 48 ministers have led this important government portfolio. The first to hold the position of Minister of Mining was Eduardo Paredes Martínez, and the current Minister of Mining is Aurora Williams. Our mission is to design, implement, and evaluate public mining policies aimed at enhancing and disseminating the mining sector’s contribution to national development, fostering innovation, productivity, and sustainability, in order to leverage available mining resources under socially inclusive conditions. We aim to be the main actor and articulator of public mining policies in Chile and to be recognised for contributing to the appreciation and dissemination of the sector’s contribution to the country’s development.

In this place, the molybdenum and concentrate filtering plants are also located. Our shareholders are Anglo American plc (44%), Glencore (44%) and Japan Collahuasi Resources B.V.
